Title: SRI to partner with GreatPoint Energy on carbon capture study
Industry sector: Clean Coal
SRI wins $4.5M carbon capture study contract
San Francisco Business Times - by Steven E.F. Brown
SRI International won a $4.5 million Department of Energy contract to study ways to cut pollution at power plants.
The Menlo Park nonprofit research institute will spend the money studying carbon dioxide capture using an ammonium carbonate-ammonium bicarbonate, or AC-ABC, method. It’s meant to be used at gasification plants, which use new technology to convert coal to gasses before burning.
This project is set to be done in 2012. SRI will work with a partner, GreatPoint Energy, on the study.
Andrew Perlman is chairman and CEO of GreatPoint, which is based in Cambridge, Mass., and has an office in Chicago.
SRI was born in 1946 as the Stanford Research Institute. It became an independent organization in 1970.
