Boston-Power Named AlwaysOn GoingGreen 50 Winner

Company Lauded as a Leading Green Technology Innovator for 2009

Award Follows $55 Million Infusion of Growth Capital and HP’s Plans
to Deliver Boston-Power’s Sonata in First Quarter 2009

Westborough, Mass., February 26, 2009 – Boston-Power, Inc, the rapidly growing provider of next-generation Lithium-ion batteries, has earned a ranking on the 2009 GoingGreen East 50 Top Private Company List.

The GoingGreen East 50 Award is given to private, emerging companies creating new business opportunities in green technology. Boston-Power was selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team based on demonstration of growth, market opportunity, quality of innovation and customer traction. This is the second time since September 2008 that the company has earned a spot on AlwaysOn’s GoingGreen lists. In April 2008, Boston-Power was also chosen as the highest ranking company on AlwaysOn’s debut listing of Northeast 100 Top Private Companies.

Boston-Power’s Sonata is the longest lasting, fastest charging and only Ecolabel-certified rechargeable Lithium-ion notebook computer battery. It will come to the market first next month from HP, the world’s top provider of notebook PCs. The result of a three-year relationship between HP and Boston-Power, HP’s new Enviro Series of Notebook Batteries is based on Sonata and compatible with a broad range of HP’s most popular notebook PCs.

“Boston-Power has a strong commitment to the environment and we’re involved in the effort to combat climate change,” said Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud. “This commitment is part of what led us to develop Sonata. Being named to the GoingGreen 50 list is an honor and we appreciate the award program’s celebration of companies whose products and services underscore a respect for the environment.”

“The GoingGreen East 50 companies have demonstrated their tenacity even in the toughest economic conditions that the technology world has ever encountered,” said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. “We applaud their success in pushing the boundaries of innovation, creating market opportunities and transforming the industry even in the earlier stages of their businesses.”
Boston-Power and the other GoingGreen East winners will be recognized at the GoingGreen East Conference at the Four Seasons in Boston, MA, on March 9-11. This two-and-a-half day executive conference is co-presented and will feature presentations and high-level debates from CEOs, journalists, industry experts, investors and greentech executives.

Earlier this week, Boston-Power announced that it is substantially expanding mass production of Sonata through a five-year strategic partnership with GP Batteries, the top consumer battery manufacturer in Greater China. Additionally, the company named Max Fang as a business advisor. Mr. Fang’s career accomplishments include an 11-year role with Dell, where he started the company’s first International Procurement Organization and helped it grow into one of the most widely respected supply chains across Asia.

Last month, Boston-Power announced $55 million in growth capital, bringing total investment to $125 million. The company is using the funds to scale manufacturing, sales, marketing, and research and development to meet strong global demand for Sonata. Initially targeting notebook computers, Sonata could eventually be used to power a wide spectrum of end-applications – from consumer electronics devices to e-bikes, hybrid and electric vehicles (EV/HEV) and other forms of transportation.

The GoingGreen East 50 winners were selected from among hundreds of other technology companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists and industry insiders. The AlwaysOn editorial team conducted a rigorous three-month selection process to finalize the 2009 list.
