WilmerHale’s Energy and Clean Tech practice builds on our strengths in corporate, project finance, climate change, energy, intellectual property, tax ,real estate law. These strengths, combined with our international experience in public law and regulatory matters affecting the oil, gas, electric and alternative energy industries, uniquely position us to advise energy technology companies.

We advise clients on traditional and alternative energy projects, including project financing agreements; engineering, procurement and construction contracts; operating and maintenance agreements; fuel supply agreements; and power sales agreements. We advise on trading emission credits, generating CO2 certified emission reductions under the Kyoto Protocol for carbon sequestration projects, and registration and trading of renewable energy certificates.

Corporate and Venture Capital Financing
Since 2000, we have handled more than 1,750 VC financings raising over $18 billion. We have one of the top venture practices in the world and counsel more VC-backed companies in the eastern US than any other firm.

Intellectual Property and Technology Licensing
We counsel clients on patent prosecution, trademark, copyrights, trade secrets and IP strategy. We are experts in tech transfer and licensing, litigation, sponsored research agreements and IP diligence.

Regulatory Advice, Public Policy and Strategy
We represent project developers, qualified facility owners, exempt wholesale generators, utilities and power marketers before FERC and state public utility commissions, administrative agencies, courts and tribunals in the US, Europe and South America. We counsel companies how to manage public policy risk and craft legislative or regulatory solutions to complex problems.

Environmental
We counsel clients on environmental laws and air permitting requirements; negotiate permit terms with agencies; handle permit appeals; and advise permittees in enforcement actions.

Climate Change
We help clients manage the full spectrum of climate change issues. We help form legislative and regulatory strategy, analyze international impacts of legislation, and interact with key members of Congress and Executive Branch agencies.
