The Ceramics Technician will be responsible for supporting ceramics processing and prototyping, as well as test support. The position is mostly “hands-on” and involves using a wide range of production and test equipment with high levels of quality, efficiency and safety.

Requirements include the following:
• Prepare powders for ceramics processing.
• Batch ceramics.
• Operate ball mills, mixers and extruders.
• Dough preparation and extrusion.
• Slurry preparation and dip coating.
• Run furnaces.
• Dry press parts.
• Assist in testing materials and finished parts.
• Set up and troubleshoot equipment and processes.
• Document work through memos, red-lined drawings, sketches, etc.
Qualifications include the following:
• Technical AS or BS degree, with 4 years experience in a similar role.
• US citizenship or permanent residency required. Work visas are not accepted.
• Ability to read and understand complex drawings, assembly and process instructions, manuals and additional technical materials.
• Familiarity with weighing equipment, processes for ceramics fabrication
• Basic extruder knowledge.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• General knowledge of standard laboratory and shop practices and safety procedures.
• General computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to work on multiple projects at once.
• Attention to detail and the desire to consistently produce high quality work.
Additional useful skills:
• Competency using lathes and milling machines, as well as various hand tools
• Familiarity with fluid handling equipment, compressed gasses, temperature, pressure and flow measurement
• Tape casting and slip casting experience
