Nuvera is seeking a Systems Reliability Engineer to join our team. The Systems Reliability Engineer will participate in Systems Development efforts in Nuvera, with a special focus on collecting and analyzing reliability data from systems in the field, lab and on the drawing board. The person in this role will also independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques to solve system-engineering problems.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Act as an in-house expert in all matters concerning system reliability.
• Administer and further refine the use of the Nuvera Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
• Develop standard methods and models for warranty and risk prediction based on past field data.
• Develop qualitative FMEA models based on system design and follow up to refine those models once field and lab data is available.
• Develop and propagate the use of 8-D failure analysis processes to address root cause.
• Apply formal Weibull, Crow-AMSAA and other statistical methods to predict lifetime and warranty exposure for repairable systems.
• Participate in system design activities on multiple product platforms to ensure design for reliability is considered early in the design phase.
• Assist in diagnosing and solving field failures.
Job Qualifications: (required unless otherwise noted)
Educational Background and Previous Work Experience
• BS in mechanical engineering with 3-5 years experience system engineering. MS preferred or specialized training in reliability engineering preferred.
• Previous hands-on experience with the development and reliability engineering of complex electromechanical systems.
Special Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated mastery of formal reliability engineering techniques, including Weibull, FMEA, 8-D problem analysis, Crow-AMSAA, FRACAS and warranty prediction and risk analysis
• Basic knowledge of fuel cell technology.
• Very good hands on and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with data handling software packages such as MS Excel, VBA, Labview, MathCAD, Relex FRACAS.
• Interdisciplinary experience in controls, electrical, software, systems engineering.
• Familiarity with basic lab safety procedures/ policies required.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, plus high level of enthusiasm.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced changing environment with multiple and changing priorities.
• Willing to travel to field locations in the US up to 10% of the time. Flexibility with working overtime.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
Desirable Skills and Abilities
• Some exposure to Six-Sigma methodologies is helpful.
Physical requirements/work environment
• Use of basic hand and diagnostic tools.
• Approximately 10% of time spent in lab, 75% in office environment, 5% in the field.
Licenses Needed, Certifications, Special Training Courses
• Six Sigma green belt is favorable, but not required.
Travel Required
• Approximately 5% domestic travel.
